black and white fabrics...

i'm delighted to be today's stop on jennifer sampou's blog tour.  her new collection:  black and white for robert kaufman is in-stores now.  the collection features 1 color story, 6 prints with a grand total of 24 beautiful options to create with.

i first fell in love with jennifer's collections after seeing pictures from market this past fall.  designing fabric since 1989, she's extremely thoughtful, loves color and print, and draws her inspiration from the world around her.  read the story behind her "walk with me" quilt.

the black and white collection feels very romantic to me.  the perfect shades of black, white, and grey.  it's no surprise that i love black and white.  it's classic.  just like black and white photographs or black and white movies.

i started out sketching a few designs, but ultimately landed on "outside in" which tells the story of the beauty from within.  we're mysterious.  we're dark and sometimes dramatic.  we're alive.  just like a butterfly--we're made up of many unique things.

i used a mixture of black and white fabrics as well as several kona solids from robert kaufman.  the butterflies are from jennifer's oversized butterfly print, cut and appliquéd onto the background color.  what's romance without a little lace, so i stitched a panel of lace to the front.  to create drama, the borders around the butterflies were cut various sizes.  i also kept the quilting to a minimum, crosshatching the edges.

i absolutely love jennifer's collection and i hope you do too.  check out the other talented designers who are also a part of jennifer's blog tour.
