i’m back with another awesome project featuring one of Nancy’s Notions templates.
i’ve always been a huge fan of 2 1/2’’ strips and the Tube-Tacular Template makes it easy to create dynamic projects with a few quick cuts! and since i’m in the holiday spirit, i decided to create another holiday themed project. i love this version, where the red forms a spool. so cute right? well, guess what? you can make your own!
here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
2- 1/2 yard solid green fabrics (i used a light and a dark)
1- 1/2 yard solid red fabric
1- 1/2 yard solid green fabric for the border
1- 3/8 yard solid fabric for the binding
1- 26’’ x 26’’ solid fabric for the backing
1- 26’’ x 26’’ batting
matching thread for piecing and quilting
misc. sewing supplies
unless otherwise noted, a 1/4’’ seam allowance was used.
i used riley blake designs confetti cottons and 1/8’’ stripe basic for this project.
here’s the cutting instructions:
follow the tube-tacular template instructions for cutting
cut (2) x 2 1/2’’ x 20’’ green rectangles
cut (2) x 2 1/2’’ x 24’’ green rectangles
cut (4) x 2 1/2’’ x WOF rectangles for the binding
here’s the piecing instructions:
follow the tube-tacular template instructions for piecing
make 16 blocks
trim each block to 5 1/2’’
sew 4 blocks together (should finish at 10 1/2’’ square)
sew 4- 10 1/2’’ blocks together to make the quilt top
sew on each border rectangle
here’s how you can finish your mini quilt:
layer quilt top, batting, and backing together
baste as desired
quilt and bind as desired
ta-da, wasn’t that so much fun? and easy too, especially with the Tube-Tacular Template!
want a freebie (besides this awesome tutorial, haha!)? you can get free shipping on my faves like wonder clips, my riley blake designs pin bowl, and my go-to olfa trimmers and rotary cutter. use code 189501-1130 for free shipping over $49.00. how awesome is that?
can’t wait to see what you make with the Tube-Tacular Template! i’m already planning on making another version in different colors. it’s very versatile! =)
cut, sew, repeat…
