today is my stop on the fleet and flourish blog tour. i hope you enjoy reading this as much as i enjoyed making my appalachian mountain mini.
i was first introduced to maureen cracknell through stephanie from modern sewciety. she said i would absolutely love maureen's limited edition fabric line, "wild and free" from art gallery fabrics. she was right! her first collection of prints including folk plaid, midnight roof, and luminous field are some of my absolute favorites.
this past october i was lucky enough to meet maureen at quilt market. she's exactly what i pictured--sweet, very kind, carefree, and loads of fun! she introduced me to her second line, "fleet and flourish" and it's just as delicious as her first! it's the perfect blend of romance and bohemian and her booth was beautifully put together and completely captured her story.
when maureen asked me to join her blog tour, i couldn't say no. inspired by the new broadway musical, bright star and the mountains i call home--the appalachians, this mini started to come together.
using a combination of maureen's prints, i cut 5 1/2" squares, pieced them together, and used my triangle sizzix die to form the mountains. the depth and emotion these prints created together is magical. i love the large scale florals!
for the background, i used smooth denim from the denim studio, art gallery's latest and greatest. it's the perfect compliment to these lovely prints.
i kept the quilting simple, adding a pop of color with gold thread. the organic quilting lines and chambray background reminds me of a lake with the mountains reflection at sunset. i absolutely love the roadside guides print for the binding, it adds so much fun texture.
