Say Hello to the Baby Lock Sashiko

There’s a new machine in my sewing room!

Say hello to the Baby Lock Sashiko.

This speciality machine creates beautiful and precise sashiko stitches.

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery or stitching method that is typically created by hand. It’s decorative and functional. The Baby Lock Sashiko machine creates these stitches in a fraction of the time.

You can use the machine to add stitches to almost any project from quilting to apparel. It’s very cool!

Everything you need to start is included in the box. However, this speciality machine comes with a learning curve. I highly recommend reading the manual from start to finish, especially since the machine uses a bobbin thread to make these delicate stitches.

I would also recommend watching Evy’s video on how to thread the machine. She guides you step-by-step, giving you helpful tips and tricks along the way. There’s a wonderful trouble shooting video too.

After reading the manual (more than once, LOL!), watching several YouTube videos, and practicing on scrap fabric and orphan quilt blocks, I’m more confident with how this little speciality machine works. I love having the ability to control the stitch length and stitch spacing. I’ve also learned that I prefer knotting and/or tying off my thread ends, giving them extra stability.

If you’ve been thinking about investing in this machine, I highly recommend it! For more information, including where to purchase, contact your local Baby Lock retailer.

Stay tuned for projects featuring the Baby Lock Sashiko. My list of ideas is getting longer by the day!
