ombre holiday tree featuring Nancy's Notions...

several months ago my friends at Nancy’s Notions asked me to create a modern project using one of their many awesome templates. of course, i couldn’t say no!

i saw the Split Tumbler Template in their catalog and fell in love. and since the holidays are right around the corner, I wanted to create a holiday project! introducing the ombre holiday tree mini quilt. isn’t it just the cutest? and guess what? you can make your own!

here’s what you’ll need to make your own:

  • 4- 3/8 yard solid green fabrics

  • 1- 3/8 yard solid red fabric

  • 1- 1/2 yard solid white fabric for border

  • 1- 1/4 yard stripe fabric for binding

  • 1- 20’’ x 22’’ solid fabric for backing

  • 1- 20’’ x 22’’ batting

  • split tumbler template

  • matching thread for piecing and quilting

  • misc. sewing supplies

unless otherwise noted, a 1/4’’ seam allowance was used.

i used riley blake designs confetti cottons and 1/8’’ stripe basic for this project.

here’s the cutting instructions:

  • follow the Split Tumbler Template instructions for cutting

  • use the 5’’ square lines on the Split Tumbler Template

  • cut (2) x 2 1/2’’ x 18’’ white rectangles for the border

  • cut (2) x 2 1/2’’ x 16 1/4’’ white rectangles for the border

  • cut (3) x 2 1/2’’ x WOF stripe rectangles for the binding

here’s the piecing instructions:

  • follow the Split Tumbler Template instructions for piecing

  • make 4 x light green blocks

  • make 4 x medium green blocks

  • make 4 x medium dark blocks

  • make 4 x dark green blocks

  • trim each block to 4’’ x 4 1/2’’

  • sew each column together

  • sew each row together

  • sew on each border

here’s how you can finish your mini quilt:

  • layer quilt top, batting, and backing together

  • baste as desired

  • quilt and bind as desired

ta-da, wasn’t that so much fun? and easy too, especially with the Split Tumbler Template!
