modern churn dash w/FQS

the churn dash is an awesome traditional quilt block and today i’m sharing a modern twist with you.

last year i made the “merry go round” mini quilt in some of my favorite Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cotton Solids and in this updated version, i used Blossom, my basic for RBD. so fun, right?

what’s the modern twist you ask?

well, traditionally, churn dash blocks are one color. however, i went wild and crazy and used two. each block is unique and if you wanted to get super scrappy, you could use up to four. the churn dash block is also an easy block to scale up and down, because you’re essentially making a nine-patch block. remember to keep your block measurements on the odd-size so it works out mathematically.

this mini quilt is beginner friendly and can be sewn together over a weekend. Fat Quarter Shop has both a kit and pdf pattern available, so hop on over and purchase it today!
