vintage home sewing book...

today i’m thrilled to share my friend and fellow designer, beverly mccullough’s new book, vintage home sewing!

published by nancy’s notions, this book features 8 gorgeous sewing projects. from drink coasters to a throw size quilt, there’s a project for everyone, including the beginner sewist!

beverly (or bev) and i have lots in common, including our love of all things vintage. we can chat for hours about vintage furniture, vintage quilts, and vintage tchotchkes. so when she asked me to make a project from her book, i couldn’t say no. each project is just as beautiful as the next. i also really appreciate the additional alternative color ways she made for each project. the inspiration is endless!

i’ve been obsessed with double wedding ring quilts for years, but the construction is somewhat intimidating. so when i saw bev’s diamonds and rings quilt, i knew that’s exactly what i wanted to make! bev’s version is faster and features appliqué for the rings portion of the quilt. why didn’t i think of that?

using bev’s well written instructions, i opted to make 12 rings to create a mini quilt. i used my new basic for riley blake designs, blossom, choosing a rainbow color palette. it’s so bold and graphic…i love it! for the background, i used confetti cottons in riley white.

shhhh, don’t tell anyone, but i had every intention of adding an outside border, just like Bev did, but totally forgot. whoopsie. it’s still super cute without. don’t you think?

i learned a lot making this mini quilt and hope you enjoyed reading about it.

hurry and grab bev’s vintage home sewing book today. you won’t be disappointed!
