Under The Canopy Fabric...

I’m excited to share with you a new fabric collection from Rachel Erikson of Citrus and Mint Designs!

Her third collection for Riley Blake Designs, Under the Canopy, was designed when her daughter asked for turquoise animal fabric. How cute is that? Featuring bright, optimistic colors and animals for every-animal loving kid, Under the Canopy covers both.

A fan of bright colors and animals myself, I just knew I wanted to make something really fun with Rachel’s new collection. Rawr is one of my favorite prints from the collection and the scale is just perfect! You’re going to want to make everything with this print. From quilts to clothing and every thing in between, the possibilities are endless!

Accent pillows are a huge trend in home decor and can take your rooms from drab to fab. A cruise through any home decor store and you’ll find lots of inspiration for making your own. One of my go-to home decor stores is Home Goods. They have aisle after aisle of accent pillows. There’s something for every room in your house! Tassels, pom-poms, and embroidery…oh my!

To make my own set of accent pillows, I used the Rawr print in white for the pillow top as well as Lori Holt’s new Chunky Thread colors in peony, pumpkin, honey, and vivid for the pom-poms. I chose Kisses Basics in raspberry for the pillow backing.

I used an 18’’ square pillow insert, the quilted fabric top, and a simple envelope closure to create my pillow. For the pom-poms, I used the Clover USA pom-pom maker and hand stitched them to the pillow top before I added the pillow insert. There are lots of tutorials online that can walk you step-by-step on how to make your own.

And since I couldn’t stop at these adorable accent pillows, I decided to make a mini quilt featuring other prints from the collection too! Stay tuned in here for a new blog post!

I hope you enjoyed reading about this collection and that my accent pillows inspire you to make something fabulous!
