Who’s tried piecing Freezer Paper Piecing?

While I’m moderately skilled in Foundation Paper Piecing, the idea of Freezer Paper Piecing seemed intimidating. I know—call me crazy, but I struggled wrapping my head around how it works. There’s no paper tearing—what?!?

I decided to give it a try!

Sandy Gervais’ From the Heart collection for Riley Blake Designs was the perfect choice for this project. And while the quilt block looks challenging, it’s not, especially with Lori Holt’s 10’’ Crazy Paper YouTube tutorial. She makes the whole process from start to finish super easy—even for a skeptic like me.

While a scrappy look is desired, I decided to layout my block sections with some intention.

Each block finished at 8’’ square. They’re so fun to make, you’d have a king size quilt in no time! Haha.

Finishing the table runner was quite easy. I joined 6 blocks together and added a 3’’ border. I then layered my top, batting, and backing together using spray baste. Using the serpentine stitch on my Baby Lock Journey, I added some gorgeous quilting texture with Aurifil 2021 50wt thread.

Don’t be afraid to try a new technique. I can’t wait to make another Freezer Paper Pieced project!
